The Western Technical College (WTC) will provide secondary school students in Years 10 - 12 with the opportunity to enhance their future career options with a qualification leading to a trade while completing their SACE. Achieving a nationally recognised training whilst at school puts students at the forefront of opportunity for obtaining an apprenticeship, traineeship and employed work.
Students are equipped with the employability skills, flexibility and qualifications to fast track their career.
The Western Technical College is a $5 million state of the art training facility funded by the Australian Government - Trade Training Centres in Schools program. The centre is located adjacent to Mount Carmel College Secondary Campus in Rosewater.
The facility is equipped with the highest quality tools and machinery that will enable qualified trainers to deliver industry specific training from nationally recognised packages. Students can study courses from the three industry areas:
· Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy
· Construction - Building
(Carpentry / Brick and Block Laying / Wall and Floor Tiling / Plastering)
· Manufacturing and Engineering
(Welding / Fitting and Machining / Sheet Metal)
A suite of introductory courses are available to Year 10 students during Semester 2. Students who engage in these courses will have the opportunity to try various trades before making a commitment to a vocational training pathway in Year 11/12. Vocational Education and Training (VET) can provide substantial credits towards the completion of the SACE and give students a distinct advantage in securing an apprenticeship.
